This is a portrait of a shy and quiet child.
She was very keen to be modelling in clay during the sittings,
drawing and or reading. So this is how I portrayed her. She produced
many household items in clay including a dolls fried breakfast.
She was patient and lovely.
She had an angelic quality in her character,
and was so well behaved while she was with me, that a more classical
approach in the modelling of her face seemed appropriate.
I wanted to contrast this with a faceted and
slightly more abstracted treatment of the hair. Also the integral
base indicates shoulders without being too literal.
